My husband Bruce and I started coming to Florida for the winters, we still worked at our real estate company, Woods & Water Realty in Chippewa Falls, WI. As owners he travels back and forth from Wisconsin to Florida to take care of business.

One cold morning while Bruce was in Wisconsin, I was bored and had a huge urge, for no reason, to get some watercolor paints and paper to paint on. So, I went to the Dollar Tree and picked up some cheap watercolors and paper. My first painting was of a palm tree and some bushes – and for a first painting I thought it didn’t come out so bad, although it wasn’t a masterpiece! But I got brave and put my first painting on Facebook. Then I painted another and another and kept putting them on Facebook, and do you know what happened? I started getting orders, and one person wanted to frame their whole hallway wall with my originals! That’s how I got started in painting.

Before I paint anything, I have to be inspired first – It might be a bird or foliage or maybe a photo in a magazine, etc. My favorite things that inspire me is nature. I paint on paper, canvas, and also paint on caps and totes. The style of my paintings would be described as impressionism, whimsical and abstract. My favorite mediums are watercolor and acrylic.

My name is Karen Hayhoe, and you guessed it, my middle name starts with a J for Jean. My artwork has been displayed for a fundraiser for the Eau Claire Children’s Museum, originals for gifts at golf events, and my caps have been purchased for sale at a boutique in Matlache, Fl called Frills. They sold out!
I hope as you look at my paintings you find one or more paintings that will connect you to peace and/or happiness in your life. I believe art is a valuable investment for any home or office décor. Step into my gallery and enjoy!

Very sincerely and grateful,
